HotMap uses colour indicators to represent how often your search words appear in the search results:

Each vertical row of boxes corresponds to a word in your search.

The scroll box shows you which documents are currently being viewed in the search results list.

• See which documents make use of your query terms (view the colour indicators)
• Scroll the search results (drag the focus box to a location of interest)
• Jump to a location (click on a location of interest)

This area of the system controls the sorting featuers of HotMap Web Search.

• Sort the results by a search word (click on any of the buttons containing the search word)
• Sort the results by WordBars (ensure that the WordBars sort order is enabled, and select the words of interest from the WordBars list)

WordBars provides a list of the 30 most common terms appearing in the search results.

• Add words to or remove words from the search box:
  • Clicking the adds the term to the search box
  • Clicking the removes the term from the search box
• Sort the search results:
  • Clicking the sorts the search results by the term
  • shows the terms selected for re-sorting (click to remove the term from the sort)
  • the re-sorting of the search results only occurs when the WordBars sort button above the search results is selected (default state)
  • the sorting of the search results is based on how often all the selected terms appear in each search result
